Had I designed Spider Man India revisited...

Another brief jaunt into fan art dorkiness as I revisit an old idea I was playing with....

Back when I working on "Spectacular Spider-Man" I was chatting with my co-workers and we were speculating on other potential directions for the art from the comicbook "Spider-Man India". Here is my rough scribble of what I would have done given a chance.

Well, an amusing lunch time diversion, anyway...

  3. I looks more like a "Spider-Rani" (read: Rani = Queen). How is he (or she) gonna wear the get up inside regular clothing? The "Dhoti - Kurta - Chappal and Kangan" getup was better. Besides the original Red-White and Blue theme is too Uncle Sam, dont you think?

  4. Hey Gamma, Thanks for checking in, man. I have to say that I realize my take may not be totally correct, but one tries. I have the Spider Man India series that came out a few years back, and though I enjoyed it greatly, I had issues with it's Spider Man. I felt that in a country like India, with as visually astounding as the Hindu Pantheon is, that that interpretation of the charatcer was kind of flat. It was essentially the Western Spider Man with the addition of blousy pants and slippers. Though in fact that may have been the most effective rendition to do ( though I doubt this), I felt after years of art history study that I would take a stab. I confess that though I was looking at folks like Shiva, Krishna, Indra, and the Monkey king, maybe didn't read as such for you. Think of this as my humble attempt to do a Indian Spider Man that didn't look like a straight clone of the original while introducing elements that would remind with out slavishly recreating it for the umpteenth time. I love Spidey, but change is good.

  5. Sorry for being too skeptical. I was being attached to the earlier Indi-Spidie version (still have them in mint condition). I guess, nothing grows that does not change.

Sir, you are a legend of mythological proportion to us action-art lovers. The heavy Jewelry is a plus-plus (hope they aren't too expensive for Mr. Prabharkar there).

Love the Lord Rama and Shiv like blue coloration of the skin and the bare footedness as to add to the agility of the character(always wandered how spidy sticks to walls with his boots on and why-o-why the web comes out of his hands instead of the usual natural spot, unless his initial spider bite developed into that).

If only he could grow extra hands like the Indian Gods and arachnids, but that will be a far too stretch form the spidy-spirit.

Really love your attention to details and thinking out-of-the-box radical genius. Thanks for all the eye candy that has brightened our life in one way or the other.
